the long con
religion and government
aren’t enemies.
they’re old friends
telling the same story
from different microphones.
one says wait.
the other says vote.
both say trust us.
both say later.
they don’t want believers
or citizens-
they want quiet people
who clap on cue
and confuse obedience
with virtue.
because freedom is loud.
freedom asks questions.
freedom refuses to kneel
just because everyone else is tired.
and the real sin-
the one they never forgive-
is thinking for yourself
and realizing you were never lost.
you were just being managed.
